about
I really love the mysterious yet beautiful vibe of this song, created by the layers of different guitars, tuned to different registers. To me it sounds like the moonlight. It's an unusual love song, talking about weird dreams and fixing stuff around an old house, while somehow tying it all into the true meaning of love. When you've been with someone a long time, you have to be okay with imperfections in each other in your life and focus on the stuff that really matters.
lyrics
The welcome mat is faded
The old door handle sticks
There’s a hundred other things here
That we don’t need to fix
The floorboards keep on creaking
The big light flickers on
I know you know me without speaking
Cause words can come out wrong
I dreamed we had a staircase in the attic
Leading up to secret rooms beyond
They were full of light and undiscovered treasure
But I when I woke up it would all be gone
I wanna find out everything about you
Why are we worrying about all the shit that doesn’t matter?
It doesn’t matter
The wallpaper is peeling
The bathroom faucet drips
And those curtains need some healing
But the moonlight makes it way in through the rips
You found another wrinkle
You pulled another grey
Why can’t we keep it simple?
Why does every imperfection get a name?
I’d rather take you on a new adventure
There’s still parts of you I’ve never known
So let’s get off the beaten path forever
With you I’m not afraid of growing old
I wanna find out everything about you
Why are we worrying about all the shit that doesn’t matter?
It doesn’t matter
It doesn’t matter
