about

Edmonton-based troubadour, Martin Kerr, has been making connections with people through his music for years. Through heartfelt lyrics, delicate instrumentation and sparse production, he explores the nuances of everyday life as well as its wonders with a poetic and poignant perspective. Throughout his career, Martin has supported Sarah McLachlan during a stadium show, opened for Walk Off The Earth and shared a stage with Blue Rodeo. He’s performed with the Edmonton Symphony and graced stages in over 35 countries. Most recently, Kerr joined Dermot Kennedy on his cross-Canada tour. Martin’s live show is a wonderous showcase of his natural ability as a storyteller conveying vulnerability, adventure, hope, and authentic connections.

“Away in Bomb Shelters” is a poignant take on a well known holiday classic. Martin’s new lyrics put into perspective what many people across the world are currently dealing with right now, living in active war zones. The song aims to hold politicians accountable for the horrors that have befallen innocent children around the world.

lyrics

Away in bomb shelters, concrete for a bed
The little lost children lay down their sweet heads
The drones in the dark sky look down where they lay
While they pray to the angels to fly them away

The mother is crying, the baby awakes
The building is rocking, the whole city shakes
Bless all the dear children who are living through hell
But the Lockheed and Boeing shares are doing so well

O Father forgive them, for they still do not know
This world is a sandbox and time’s wind will blow
Away all the borders, every kingdom will fall
And the riches we fight for are nothing at all
